Gabe's Web Page: Greek Mythology

The Ancient Greeks:

Greek mythology is one of the oldest and most well preserved mythologies known to history. Over the course of its existence, which extends up to the modern day, it has been worshiped in many places, by many peoples, most notably, the ancient greeks. Although it originated and prospered in the Greek city-states, Greek mythology was spread to a large part of the middle east by Alexander the Great. Alexander was the son of Philip II of Macedon, a great king of Macedon, a greek-like nation just to the North of the city-states, which lacked the democracy found in many Greek governments at that time. In 338 B.C.E., Philip invaded greece, creating a massive greek kingdom which, when he died, he passed on to his son. Alexander, a Macedonian, led a great Greek army into the neighboring Persian Empire, conquering it, forming the largest empire of the time period. When he did this, Alexander spread the belief of Greek mythology far and wide across the region, and for a long time it was one of the widest believed religions in the world. Throughout history, the Greek peoples have proved to be great warriors, thinkers, and architects, also being well renowned as the inventors of modern democracy.
